is to attract users without straining them to understand something. If
facebook needed you to study to appreciate, it should have already gone to
the dustbin long ago.
You just don't fall into the kind of people that facebook attracts. It is
not for everyone. Facebook tends to attract younger generations, study shows
. That's not to say you are getting too old to enjoy it. Just an example.

另外从技术上来看,以前我也觉得吹web 2.0/cloud什么的都是浮云,现在觉得这其中

| i**p 发帖数: 940 | 13 I don't believe FB will succeed in making mobile phones *just* because it
has so many users. Who doesn't have many users? Yahoo, anyone? It is not
only about users, it is also about how users behave and interact on the
platform.
FB is so valuable because:
1. it has (mostly) real identities on the web and their detailed profile,
like sex, birthday, job, location, schools went to, etc. And it even has a
social graph about you.
2. It is viral in the sense that one can broadcast information to "friends"
very easily and very fast. Imagin you just had a baby (or you really like
your ipad or a restaurant). This information may take a month or longer to
reach a so-so friend. In FB, it is a matter of minutes or hours.
3. FB is very innovative and has a visionary founder (like amazon and apple)
. "FB like" is a great example.
4. It truly has network effect, like ebay. This makes it almost unbeatable
in its own business.
Note that 1 and 2 makes a lot of business succeed in a very short period of
time (zynga and groupon for example). As a platform, FB itself will find
many ways to monetize. 3 and 4 makes it almost impossible for competitors to
beat it.
The major risk I see for FB is that its users may slowly get FB fatigue;
When that happens, FB will collapse in a matter of 1-2 years.
Another risk is from "pumping and dumping" consipary theory point of view,
now people are starting to trash the value of social graph. Instead, they
are talking about "interest graph" where twitter and quora may excel.
Another example is the funding of color, where people are talking about "
implicit social network".

| i**p 发帖数: 940 | 15 I never used myspace, but if I have to guess, I would guess the following
two factors:
1. real identity: FB has mostly real identities, and people don't easily
abandon their real identities. On the other hand, myspace was full of fake
profiles.
2. user experience.

Facebook “Is Truly A Dream Come True For The CIA
Congressional “testimony” from the deputy CIA director:
After years of secretly monitoring the public, we were astounded so many
people would willingly publicize where they live, their religious and
political views, an alphabetized list of all their friends, personal
emails addresses, phone numbers, hundreds of photos of themselves, and
even status updates about what they were doing moment to moment. It is
truly a dream come true for the CIA.

That said, because people wants to be viewed as awesome, FB profile only
shows what one wants to be shown -- it is a beautified version of the real
person. This is, for example, why I think FB will not succeed in search
market, because no normal person wants to associate her sometimes shady
search queries with FB.

Facebook has too much going on, difficult to be timeless. Besides, in China
Wei Bo seems to be catching on better than Renren and Kaixin.
