Subject: [NorthSiliconValley-BusinessWatch] Auto Burglaries at McCarthy
Ranch Milpitas
Hello,
The Milpitas Police Department is experiencing a rise in auto burglaries
in the McCarthy Ranch Shopping Center on Ranch Dr in Milpitas. The
typical time element for these burglaries is usually between 11:30AM to
1:00PM (lunchtime) and 5:00PM to 7:00PM (dinner) and the MO is has been
a window smash with items of value in plain sight taken. The criminals
are burglarizing vehicles while customers are in restaurants eating
their meals. The Milpitas Police Department is aware of the situation,
but we would like to remind you of the following preventative measures:
* Lock your car doors and roll up your windows anytime you park your
vehicle.
* Conceal or remove any valuables (laptop computers, cell phones, GPS
devices, MP3 players, purses, wallets, etc...) from your vehicle prior
to entering the parking lots.
* If you must place your valuables in the trunks of your vehicle, do not
let others see you.
* Park your vehicle in well lit areas.
* If possible, park close to the front of businesses.
* Consider adding an alarm system to your vehicle.
* So you don't have to worry about your property, bring only what you
need with you and leave the rest at home/work, NOT in your vehicle.
* If you see any suspicious people or activity when you are parking your
car, don't hesitate to call the Police Department.
If you become a victim of an auto burglary:
* Notify the Milpitas Police Department as soon as you notice your
vehicle has been burglarized.
* Do not open any doors or touch your vehicle before a Police Officer
arrives.
* Report any and all auto burglaries, even if you think nothing is
missing and there appears to be no damage to your vehicle.
* Keep track of the serial numbers of any equipment not installed by the
vehicle's manufacturer.
