position is IT. The base is $120K plus 20K to 40K year end bonus. No
sign on bonus. How is the offer? I have about 10 years experience in
IT.
I am also thinking for finding a position instead in a potential Pre-
IPO startup with stock options. Do you think that is a better choice?
Your input will be very appreciated!!!
P.S. I can only type Chinese very slowly (less than 5 characters per

as for startup thingy, this year i think it is record-breaking(since dot-com
era) in term of seeding and serie-a activities in the valley.. so.. well.

management and co-workers. They do not push me hard. Only one annoying
thing is that I have to take support calls in the middle of nights. On
average about one or two calls per week. Very disruptive to sleep.

first level. Mine is 24/7 now.

You brought up a good point. I think I do not have career planning.
Basically, I do not know where I can go as a senior software engineer. I am
definitely not management material. Neither do I want to be a manager.
Any suggestion?

package last year. I think if the startup is an IT company, it would be a
good idea to take that offer, otherwise you will basically do routine work
in that financial company and end up not gaining much valuable experience.
$120k is also low for 10 year experience IMO.

repetitive. Assuming I can stand the repetition, are you suggesting it is
better to get into a prospective Pre-IPO IT startup than to get into a
relatively higher-paid job in a mature public financial company?

With your 10y exp, you should ask for at least $200K to $250K base + $30-$
100K annual bonus

financial company. My 10yrs experience is in IT, not in finance. Do you
really think I can ask for a base of $200K, or maybe just even for $140K?
Maybe you can share more so I can build my confidence? As I am not
confident of asking such high numbers now.
