Software Engineer

This role is instrumental in designing and delivering applications that will
help to propel Thermo Fisher Scientific products into the internet & mobile
space, make Life content accessible to more devices, integrate with key
partners in the cloud, and allow Thermo Fisher Scientific services to scale
with rapid growth in users.
We are seeking an individual with extraordinary engineering talent who has a
proven track record of developing high performance, high capacity and
scalable applications and a has passion for creating and working in a
collaborative Agile teams.
Additionally, this position will require the candidate to be responsible for
developing the Genetic analysis application as SaaS on the Thermo Fisher
Scientific cloud platform to enable capabilities including customer data
management, scientific instrument integration, application services, multi-
tenancy, analytics pipelines, and results visualization.
Candidates should be experienced in building back end scalable services,
familiar with designing database data tiers on top of relational SQL
databases and fluent in web front end technologies (Rails, HTML, CSS, AJAX,
JavaScript.) The ideal candidate will possess all those skills, plus
experience with building high performance, high scalability and high
availability websites.
Basic Qualifications
Technical Skills:
• Design and develop software for large-scale cloud-based services.
• 4 years Java/J2EE industry experience
• Strong Web 2.0 experience essential, including use of OO
Javascript, Ajax, JS libraries (eg ExtJs /jQuery/DOJO/ etc) Bootstrap, HTML
5, CSS, JSON, strong understanding of browser compatibility issues.
• Experience with LAMP Stack, Derby, Postgress, MongoDB.
• Experience with implementing common design patterns
• Web Service design experience: SOAP Request/Response handling,
authentication, REST APIs
• Use of Unified Modeling Language (UML) to conceive a design
• Knowledge of web security standards and how to apply them
• Ability to communicate successfully with peer engineers, product
managers, other technical teams, and management to understand requirements,
describe software product features, and technical designs.
• B.S in computer science is required. Knowledge of Molecular
Biology is a plus

Software Testing Engineer
Job Description:
• The software Testing engineer will be part of the team
responsible for testing Thermo Fisher Scientific sequencing instruments and
Cloud based analysis applications at South San Francisco location.
• Follow Agile iterative software development process - continuous
integration testing, rapid automation to efficiently build the best
industry software.
• Develop comprehensive test plans, create and maintain robust test
cases, test scripts, and test data through in-depth analysis of the
requirements.
• Execute test cases, debug and resolve issues, track and
prioritize defects, and report results.
• Follow and improve QA best practices, standards and processes,
participate in product discussions, and make informed QA decisions.
• Think from customer perspective, and creatively solve real user
problems.
• Collaborate with other team members, view the big picture, and
question decisions to evolve the testing process.
Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years experience in web based software QA engineering
• Strong hands on Linux and Shell script skills
• Good Java programming and Shell script skills in developing
customized automation frameworks
• Proficient with any scripting language like Python, Perl and
ability to quickly develop scripts and improve testing efficiency
• Experienced in utilizing off the shelf automation frameworks in
testing web services and stress and load testing.
• Highly productive, accountable, enthusiastic, self motivated
person with drive to get things done well
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills along with strong technical
and analytical problem solving skills
• Excellent verbal, written communication skills along with strong
interpersonal, and influencing skills
• Result oriented person with ability to multitask, meet deadlines
and pro-actively drive critical tasks to completion with little supervision
Education
• BS/MS in computer science/engineering or equivalent with 2 years
or more software industry experience as QA Engineer |
