The petition "CA State Assembly: Vote No to SCA 5" on Change.org has reached
over 77,062 signature as of today and has become one of the topmost
trending petitions since it was created on Feb. 16th, 2014. The number of
supporters continues growing fast at this moment. Many people posted their
comments that state the reasons why they think that SCA-5 is wrong, while
they signed the petition. These include concerned students and their parents:
"It is because I am an Asian student within an mainly Asian community. I am
currently in high school and I believe that it is unfair to discriminate us
from going into a certain university. We should not be judged by our race,
but instead by our intellectuals." -- Christine Chyu, CUPERTINO, CA
"I have an Asian daughter who works hard to get good grades. She shouldn't
be discriminated because she is Asian and should fairly get into college
base on her academic scores not to use affirmative action as a reason to
qualify to get into college. " -- Anh Vu, POWAY, CA
And avid thinkers:
"Well, It depends on one's character if he chooses to make that push to be
sucessful. Education is not limited to one ethnicity nor it's unlimited to
only one. Therefore, there should be no reason to judge one dominant for the
basis of benefiting others." -- Jason Ouyang, ALHAMBRA, CA
"Why do we, adults need to capture children in quota or "ceiling" when they
excel themselves? As being public representatives for Californians, please
stop the nonsense political and racial agenda; give children equal
opportunity to become good and educated citizens, regardless of races,

"For those who are concerned about why certain segments of population is
under-represented, and feel it is an important social/political issue, the
proper way to go about "fixing it" is to devote resources to lifting those
that are under-represented - giving them resources to improve their skills,
etc. The solution is not to change the qualifications at universities. Teach
them how to kick the ball better, instead of rigging the goal post to favor

stage can be, but when a state like California finds a way to peel back laws
that seek to include and prevent discrimination, it is scary to see what

"Racial preference in college admission is not the right practice and
violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Children
who study and work hard should deserve equal opportunity in college
admission regardless of their race or gender. " -- Xiaowei Quan BROOMFIELD,

"Bringing back Affirmative Action in college admissions is a violation of
the 14th amendment's equal protection clause. If Asian American admission
numbers decline at the University of California, we have statistical
evidence showing discrimination against the Asian American minority. This
