史维会-丁元的质问信:
Ignatius Y. Ding
6:55 AM (11 hours ago)
to Evan
Dear Assemblyman Low,
This is Ignatius Y. Ding, Executive Vice President of the Global Alliance
for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia, a Cupertino based multi-national
non-profit educational organization with many members living and/or working
in your district, including myself.
It has come to our attention that you have been invited and consequently
attend a banquet to honor the visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in
San Francisco on April 30, 2015.
Abe is a well known Asian Holocaust denier and a leading revisionist who has
not only spearheaded an unprecedented effort to whitewash history, but
openly promote "beautifying history" and "forward-looking history" as a
candidate for the Diet, the Japanese National Parliament, and as Prime
Minister or the chief executive of the Japanese Government.
As recent as this month, Abe has refused to acknowledge and accept war
responsibilities for the war crimes committed by its Imperial Military
during WWII, and made evasive comment about the massive abduction and forced
prostitution of hundreds of thousands of women from invaded and occupied
countries as military sexual slaves for as long as seven years, A large
number of them perished during the war and a substantial number of them were
executed by the retreating Japanese. All these facts have been investigated
, verified and reported in six United Nations Resolutions and reports issued
by the Special Rapporteurs appointed by the United Nations High Commission
for Human Rights.
We do not understand why you have chosen to attend a banquet to "honor" such
a despicable politician who is no less evil than his two convicted
grandfathers and great-uncles. we strongly urge you to immediately issue a
statement to clarify your position on the rights issues that deeply offend
many of your constituents who has been continuously protesting against Abe's
presence and visit in San Francisco Bay Area.
As an elected public official, it is your duty to do so or you shall bear
the consequences of your entanglement with Abe and his cronies. It is
inevitable that you shall be held accountable by those in your political
base, i.e. the Asian Americans whose families and countries of origin have
suffered tremendously in the hands of the brutal Japanese who, to this date,
still deny and evade responsibility. We have actively worked with national
and local veterans, women, religious and civil rights organizations for more
than two decades. Our partner organizations collectively and consistently
seek justice for the victims and survivors of Japan's war crimes. Therefore,
we can speak from our experiences that you need to address this matter
promptly and publicly, instead of sweeping it under the rug
Attached for your reference is a position statement from U.S. Congressman
Mike Honda (D-CA15) to condemn Shinzo Abe's dishonesty and offensive public
statement to call the victims of his country merely victims of human
trafficking, implying that they were sold into sexual slavery by their
families. Rep. Honda's congressional letter was co-signed by him and 24 of
his House colleagues from both Democratic and Republican parties.
We advise you to follow the good example of the righteous congressional
leaders if you wish to continue having a successful political career in
California or live in the area simply as a community leader.
Respectfully,
Ignatius Y. Ding

CONGRESSMAN MIKE HONDA’S STATEMENT ON JAPANESE PRIME MINSTER ABE’S SPEECH
TO CONGRESS
"Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA17) today made the
following statement about Japanese Prime Minister Abe’s speech to a joint
meeting of Congress
It is shocking and shameful that Prime Minister Abe continues to evade his
government’s responsibility for the systematic atrocity that was
perpetrated by the Japanese Imperial Army against the so-called “comfort
women” during World War II, by not offering an apology during his speech
today.
Today, he said Japan “must not avert our eyes” from the suffering of the
Asian countries, and that he upholds his predecessors’ views. Yet, he
refused to explicitly mention the "comfort women," nor their sexual
enslavement. Today’s refusal to squarely face history is an insult to the
spirit of the 200,000 girls and women from the Asia-Pacific who suffered
during World War II. This is unacceptable.
He also said in today’s speech “In our age, we must realize the kind of
world where finally women are free from human rights abuses.” I agree with
him completely. But without acknowledging the sins of the past, history will
repeat itself.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Abe claimed to be “deeply pained to think about
the ‘comfort women’” who experienced this suffering. But, his pain is
nothing compared to the 70-year-long torment of justice denied. Having
waited these seven decades for an honest and humble apology, 87-year old Ms.
Yong-Soo Lee traveled from Korea to be my guest in the House Gallery today.
My heart breaks for Ms. Lee and her sisters, as she must now return to
Korea without having received an apology from Prime Minister Abe."

Emily Lo 的回复:
Dear Mr. Ding,
Thank you for your email.
One my assignments as a member of the Saratoga City Council is to serve as a
Trustee on the Hakone Foundation Board. The non-profit Hakone Foundation
oversees the operation, management, and development of Hakone Gardens, a
century-old Japanese Garden and Estate owned by the City of Saratoga.
Due to the history of Hakone Gardens and Estate, the Hakone Foundation has a
long standing relationship with the Japanese Consulate. The President of
the Board and myself were invited by the Consulate General of Japan to
attend the April 30th reception on the occasion of Prime Minister Abe's
visit. My attendance at the reception was to represent Hakone Foundation as
part of my duty as a City Council member and shall not be interpreted in
any other manner.
Note : As in Bay Area cities with a rotating Mayor, the term of Mayor lasts
for one year. My term as a Mayor expired in December. 2014. This year, I am
a City Council member.
Regards,
Emily Lo
