1:Toda $ Kubo : the best book on statistical physics
2:Huang Kerson : Classical
3:Bruce Berne : Advanced topic on statistical mechanics. such as projection
technique, MCT, graph expansion...
4:Landau : Famous and Classica,l Bible of Statistical Mechanics
5:Reichl : So so, the Chinese version is not clear, new edition maybe is
better
If you are major in physical chemistry
1: Chandler : Clear and easy.
2: Fieldman : More advanced than Chandler,

I like the one by Patheria (not very sure about the author's name).
Kerson Huang's is classical but a little bit old. (and also very very
expensive!!)
No they use a lot of path integral in statistical physics. If you are
going to that direction, you should try to find some new book on it. I
remember there is one by Negele (not very sure about the nane either, but
he is a faculty of MIT, so you should be able to find that.).

Among the books you mentioned, I like Reichl best, because it is very
comprehensive ( I haven't read 1. and 3.) I would also like to mention
Feynman's book on statistical mechnics. Although non-traditional, it is
very readable.

I agree. Reichl covers a lot of material including long time tail. I don't like
her notation, and she mentions a lot but not clear to me. Her 3rd edition is
much better.

I guess the notation depends on personal preference, I actualy like her
notation, which is very modern and mechanical.
She discuss a lot about the foundations of stat mech, such as ergodic
problem,
this topic are often omitted in other textbooks. Although some physicists
such as Landau consider it irrelevant to applications, I believe this
problem
is central to the understanding of stat mech. However, I guess unless one
has
learned some of the elementary materials elsewhere, it is almost imposs
