Normally, when we apply the statistical physics to the molecules, or
microscopic systems, we can first get the rotation and vibration energies of
the molecule and find the corresponding dynamic terms for these systems using
quantum mechanics, and that's how to extract the data by fitting the IR
spectrum. And so, we consider both the rotational energy and vibrational
energy to be due to the quantum effect. This is completely different from the
classical picture for the rigid body. Hopefully that

I guess he is doing molecular calculation to determine the specific heat of a
cluster. If it's in that case, you could first determine the different energy
scales of the system. Such as, what's the vibrational energy and rotational
energy scales. You know, generally the vibrational energy is 10 times larger
than the vibrational energy, and so, you need to calculate the lowest
vibrational energy level.
You need to explain what you want to do in detail. The question is too general
and vague now.
