We are going to Canada next week to attend a friend's wedding. We prepared
a nice gift which is in a small box and is worth around $150. We heard that
the Canadian customes likes to tax everything. Do they tax on gift? To
avoid that, shall we remove the box/package? Or can we just put it in our
pocket? Will they search us?

只免税６０加元。根据你要带的具体东西，你要自己想好了。
过边境的时候最好还是老实点儿。我有一次就在免税店买了条烟，其实本来就是免税的
，当边境管问我带啥了，我可能以为是免税的，就张嘴说没有，这下好了，差点连车子

Canadian Customs care about two things: if you are going to leave anything
behind when you leave Canada, and how much it's worth.
So they will first ask you if you will leave anything there? If you said yes
, they'll ask you what is it and/or how much it's worth. Then they'll decide
if they will tax you. It's not about if it's new or used, self-use or gift,
it's all about the value of the things you IMPORT. But even so, sometimes
the officer may decide not to tax you because "it's not worth our time."
Don't lie, just tell the truth and see what happens. Becuse if you lie, if
you're found to be lying, no matter how remote the chances are, you'll be
facing criminal charges!!!

at all. Very often they just ask you why you com to Canada, where are you
from,.how long to stay in Canada, etc. I would say only 30% of my border-
crossings the I wak asked if I was going to leave anything behind.
Whenever they did ask, I answered honestly.
