In search of peace and to get away from the nightmare he had to live since
the fateful meeting in the semifinals of Champions League between Chelsea
and Barcelona in London, where he didn’t sanction four penalties for the
English tosmooth the way of the Catalans to the Champions Cup Final,
Norwegian Tom Henning Ovrebo has retired from football and will devote his
life to spirituality as a monk in the Lutheran monastery at Trondheim.
That game is in everybody’s memory as one of the biggest embarrassments in
the history of refereeing in football.
We recall that in the first leg of the tie played at the Nou Camp, teams
drew 0 to 0, and Chelsea had gone ahead by 1 to 0 at Stamford Bridge with a
goal from Ghanaian Michael Essien, but between all the fuss for the non-
sanctioned penalties, Andres Iniesta put the ball in the corner of Petr Cech
’s goal to tie and qualify for Barcelona on away goals.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper As, Hening says: “Only the retreat,
the search for full spirituality and commitment to others will allow me to
recover lost personal peace that fateful night in London: Yes, I publicly
ask forgiveness to Chelsea, Madrid and the world … and I’ll become a monk.
I will be the father Knut.”
“I sought an explanation for my performance at Stamford Bridge and could
not find either in Freud or any of the greats. I’ve lived a hell, almost
every day Drogba, Ballack and Essien appeared to me … I could not live like
this. My mistakes were prolonged in time, I had much to do in that Barca
won the Champions League and gave way to the European Supercup and Club
World Championship.”
Nobody will miss the Norwegian, who apologized as he had already did when he
disallowed a goal for Italy in the Euro Cup when, in perfect position, Luca
Toni scored against Romania.
Father Knut tearfully said goodbye: “You will not here from me again.” | b*****e

uefa后来给他很多酬佣， 这么恶名昭著的裁判， 差点进了世界杯。
