The child, who admired the keeper, had died of a serious illness
Casillas wasn't in the best of moods for the game against Manchester City.
Just a few hours before the game, he heard about the death of a Polish boy,
Dawid Zapisek, who he met during the recent European Championships.
Aged 14, he achieved his dream of meeting Iker in person. Suffering from
Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the boy's room was plastered with pictures of the
Spanish keeper.
As the kid said himself, he managed to do the last thing he wanted to "
before dying in peace". The keeper expressed his grief on facebook: "My most
sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace, my friend".
This was why Iker refrained from celebrating any of the three goals that
gave Madrid victory over City, although the TVE cameras only captured Iker's
silence during the third goal, scored by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Casillas wasn't at his best during his first game of the European
competition, and he's received criticism for the two goals City scored,
especially the second. |
