66年英国世界杯的裁判工作一直存在比较大的争议。
具体来说，就是南美球队普遍认为吃亏了。比如卫冕
冠军巴西人，被对手严重犯规，裁判大量的不闻不见，
而当南美人犯规的时候，处罚又特别严重。
巴西人的三场比赛，有两场贝利都被生生踢伤下场。
那时候没有替补这一说，你下去就少一个人。而两次
贝利都是被对手严重侵犯，而对手不但没有被罚下，
连警告（相当于黄牌）都没有。对手保加利亚和葡萄
都是欧洲球队。所以大家普遍传说，裁判已经被打过
招呼了，对于欧洲的犯规要少吹或者不吹。这样阿根
廷和英国的比赛还没开始，双方心理上已经有了敌对
情绪。
阿根廷和英国比赛中，阿根廷的队长被罚下，直接造
成阿根廷实力严重受损，根本无法与英国对抗。（当
然按当时的情况，即使不罚下，能不能对抗英国也是
很难说的）。阿根廷人的动作被罚下倒也正常，但是
对比一下根本没有任何惩罚的欧洲人的犯规，阿根廷
人认为自己没有得到公平对待，成为了幕后交易的牺
牲品。于是双方已经无心踢球，成了打架比赛。按贝
