我们不是想将mediawiki打垮，开玩笑而已啦。另外，也打不垮，呵呵。php的application还是挺好的。

你如果这样想一下：一个商家，要做一个类似的网站，看到了 mediawiki 和你目前的
那个。 那他会找谁做他的站？ 结果很清楚。 他也不会care 使用Java or PHP - he
don't even need or want to know these terms. 技术人员这样定位自己和选用的技
术，business 创业的curve 会简单很多很多，也会省很多时间。
application还是挺好的。我们是要做不同的东西，面向的是企业界。

除非你能做得比mediawiki好很多很多，而且这个好是用户觉得好， 而不是你觉得在技
术上怎么好。用户不在乎，他们看成本和结果
或者你们的软件是给你们的硬件或者其他东西服务的，在渠道上有优势,或者用户不得
不用。 这类软件，基本就是暴利。我现在工作的公司就这样, 买软件,一个插件或者升
级包，要2~8k/年

用户虽然不在乎，但我们在乎如何说服用户用java的软件。因为我们是java shop.
我们的marketing手段之一就是，给用户讲为啥java要比php的好，是企业级的首选。用
户还是听取我们的意见的，因为用户不是电脑计算机方面的。
所以，我们的advice以及服务态度，是赢得用户的重要的一点。

Wordpress is not bad, but I think it has grown to a point of bloated, just
like any software, eventually they are big and they die.
The reason we developed this wiki software is that, we control the
intellectual property right of it, so we can make good profit selling it,
rather than just doing consulting work of patching other people's software
product.
It is philosophical, some people wants to build things, some wants to just
enhance on top of existing things. So, all are valid points.

In the past I didn't like open source, because I didn't think free is good.
But when I start thinking about building my website, I actually prefer
open source a lot. Not because of price, but because of reliability.
For example, no matter how good you believe your system is, I cannot trust
it simply based on your words. Nothing personal, same applies to any other
web building company. Even the product you deliver looks great, I still have
no idea how secure it is and how stable it is. Even if I can put my whole
faith on your responsibility, I still need to bet on your technical skills.
I won't risk my money and time on it.
On the other hand, open source may not be the best in term of performance,
but its stability has been extensively tested. Any enhancement built on
it may have problem, but at least I know the core is stable. Peripherals
are always much easier to fix.
Any comments?

the future, on GPL terms for example.
Not our focus right now as we need to make money first ;-)
We got enough customers right now so we don't need to worry about short-term
open source the thing. | b******y

我们开发是有成本的，所以，目前还没有打算开源，至少先收回成本才行啊。养家糊口都要吃饭的。
开源有好的一面，有不好的一面。看你如何掌握尺度了。比如说，开源软件实际上就是转嫁了marketing的费用，因为customer acquisition cost是非常高的，开源软件很吸引潜在用户试用或者使用，而不用去太宣传。毕竟谁都喜欢免费。
但不好的一面是，如果不能把customer convert成为paying customer的话，这个就得不偿失了。
Sun Microsystem就是个例子。公司有很多能人和技术，但不赚钱，还是被oracle收购了。
所以，即使开源的话，也要谨慎为之。

钟爱的JAVA, JBOSS是开源的, 公司是赚钱的, 创始人也大赚了. 再比如这里讨论的

LINUX, 比如APACHE. 甚至JAVA也将要开源了. 当然开源也是鱼龙混杂, 基本上是金字
塔形, 成熟的稳定的好产品就那么几个, 绝大部分是一个人开发的随便丢上网的小程序

phpmyadmin 是比较成熟稳定的, 下面攻击正常安装的phpmyadmin 都不会种着, 人家喜
欢攻击phpmyadmin 是因为一旦控制, 可以完全读到数据库里的内容.

两个人, 去卖给企业时, 不管你用什么做的产品, 估计在企业眼里, 你的CREDIT也开源
软件是一样的, 因为你不FINANCIAL STABLE, 你说不做了就不做了, 企业用到一半, 出
问题了, 到时候找谁去? 如果用开源的, 如果真的对企业重要, 还可以派个人去研究解
决.
还有你这个"java要比php的好"让企业的IT MANAGER一听就不想和你谈下去了, 他会问
java那么好, java也出来了十几年了, 那为什么最流行的网站语言是PHP?另外你去推销
产品, 重要的是介绍你的产品功能等. 结果你准备去说, 你的产品不如人家, 但是你用
的是JAVA, 全宇宙最好的开发语言, 所以就是要买你的, 就是要买你的. 你认为这样行

我靠Microsoft Server Side Technology 找到第一份工作, 2年后在公司内部被转
型成JAVA/J2EE. 后来都用JAVA/J2EE找工, 目前自己用JAVA做数据处理, 用PHP做网站.
所以都了解一点. 具体感觉是都有优势和劣势, 用最适合自己的.

多谢上面的建议。
具体的好处我准备写写和其他软件的比较， 然后放到hongandjian.com上面。现在我们
比较忙，主要是已经开始做一些和ecomm有关的项目了，所以，缺少时间去忙这些其次
的工作。
我们目前团队是比较小，就几个人。但长期来看，我是希望有一个10人左右的团队，作
为软件公司来说，应该就不错了。
