Bancova community got 4 jobs offers within last week. Admiting that getting
a job largely depends on indiviudal efforts from sduents,
the news still encourages us to do more for the newly graduate stat majors
who want to be a biostatitician in the pharmaceutical area.
The plan is to start a biostatistician workshop, preparing biostatisticians
for the pharmaceutical industry/CRO by introducing new graduates with basic
concepts and
skills sets required by the pharmaceutical industry.
Objectives:
To qualify students to be able to work as an entry level biostatistician for
a pharmaceutical/medical company or CRO by training them with the following
skills:
1) ability to design clinical trials with solid understanding of adaptive
designs and simulations.
2) ability to write SAP (statistical analysis plan)
3) ability to review TLGs (tables, listings, graphs) generated by SAS
programmers.
Numbers of students to be admitted:
6
Duration:2 months
Time required: 20 / week.
Requiremements:
1) Ph.D. in statistics, or ABD in statistics majors.
2) willing to work in the pharmaceutical industry/CROs.
3) 3 letters of recommendations from current or most recent professors.
4) fluent in SAS or in R.
Stdudy Methods:
1) self paced
2) group discussions.
3) project oriented (two projects - writing stat section of protocol,
writing SAP)
4) presentations (you are required to present your projects in powerpoints
and video)
Experienced biostatisticians who have worked in the pharmaceutical industry
are welcome to join as volunteer-based mentors or instructors.

Actually MS in stat DOES have opportunity to get hired as a
biostatistician (some bancova students just got those positions recently).
This workshop only targets some companies's special needs.
