I will require a 12-15 page report (double-spaced, inclusive of diagram)
based on the following topic. The report is split into three sections:
1) A nonlinear time series of unknown origin (approx t=4000) is provided.
Based on standard analysis plot, tell me all you can about the time series
of unknown origin.
2) Build three models to model the time series. Options of the models
include: ARIMA, Persistence, Local linear, Local analogue, Local random
analogue and any other you construct. State the reason(s) why such models
are chosen.
3) Evaluate the forecast performance of your models using 1 or 2 methods, e.
g. RMS, Talagrand diagram, (Skill scores) or any other methods you like.
From the supporting figures, conclude which model does better.
This should be completed on Matlab or R. As many sample codes have already
been provided in MATLAB(and will be made available to you), the analysis
should be relatively straightforward. Nevertheless, I require the report to
be of high quality.
