May I ask for your professional advice on how to compare these two career
paths for a fresh graduate with master degree in biostatistics, please? One
is to become a sas programmer in pharmaceutical industry (CROs, hospital,
academic, pharm company), the other is to be a sas analyst in a healthcare
consulting company. I know the former one deals with clinical trial data for
most of time, the latter deals with marketing or business data. But which
one is better for a longterm career growth and which one do you recommend?

我以前在 healthcare consulting, 到哪儿都是唯一的中国人，工作技术不是主要的，
主要是
忽悠和 people skill, 比方客户经常让你干一些不能 make sense 的东西，按照他们
的方案不可能
Work, 需要很好的 people skill, 既要让客户高兴，又要让他们觉得你很
professional, 帮到了他们。
Consulting 基本上就是这样一个性质，很多时候要 white lie, 这个让我最痛苦，所
以决定去技术性的岗位。
拿到药厂 sas programmer 的工作，career path 其实还行，比方可以去热门的公司捞
钱。但是我觉得
工作本身比较无聊，不太需要跟人打交道，工作本身也很 routine. 就钱和工作机会
来讲还不错啦，但是我就是不太喜欢。
后来去了一个medical device company 做 biostatistician, 蛮喜欢的。比较 cross
functional, 可以到处去忽悠，忽悠的对象都是懂这个的专家，所以不像 health care
consulting 那样经常 deal with non technical client, 太 frustrating.
Biostatistician 需要跟
FDA, outside contractor, project manager, safety 经常开会什么的，我比较喜欢
那种搞得好像自己是个authority 的样子去跟人交流，工作本身也比较challenging,
需要很多 thinking.
所以case by case. 关键看你是什么个性，喜欢什么。
