Title: Lead Data Scientist
Location: Macon, GA or Remote
Job Responsibilities:
• The data scientist will collaborate with departments across the
system to provide actionable, data-driven insights through research and
analysis of data sources and development of statistical, mathematical and
predictive models.
• This key position will ensure the organization makes informed,
data-driven decisions to meet quality and business objectives, while
advancing the system’s ability to create new innovative models and support
the data usage and analysis needs that will position company for future
relevance and success.
• This individual will take large amounts of data points (
structured and unstructured) and use their skills in math, statistics and
programming to clean, massage and organize them.
• Essential to this role will be the ability to leverage their
analytic skillsets – industry knowledge, contextual understanding, and
skepticism of existing assumptions – to uncover hidden solutions to
business challenges.
• On any given day, this individual may be required to:
o Understands all phases of the analytic process including data
collection, preparation, modeling, evaluation and deployment
o Lead analytics projects in concept formulation, determination of
appropriate statistical methodology, data manipulation, research evaluation
and final research reports
o Regularly provides guidance and training to less experienced data
analysts and team members
o Conduct undirected research and frame open-ended industry questions
o Extract huge volumes of data from multiple internal and external
sources
o Employ sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning and
statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive
modeling
o Thoroughly clean and prune data to discard irrelevant information
o Explore and examine data from a variety of angles to determine hidden
weaknesses, trends and/or opportunities
o Devise data-driven solutions to the most pressing challenges
o Invent new algorithms to solve problems and build new tools to automate
work
o Communicate predictions and findings to management and IT departments
through effective data visualizations and reports
o Recommend cost-effective changes to existing procedures and strategies
Job Requirements:
• Candidates will need a master’s degree and 5-7 years of
analytics work-related experiences. Prior experience in the healthcare
setting and with healthcare data coding systems (e.g. ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT,
DRG) is highly desired.
• Technical Skills
• Math (e.g. linear algebra, calculus and probability)
• Statistics (e.g. hypothesis testing and summary statistics)
• Expert level proficiency with SQL programming
• Data cleaning and munging
• Data visualization (e.g. Tableau, ggplot and d3.js) and reporting
techniques
• Proficiency in languages such as R, Python and/or SAS
• Unstructured data techniques
• Experience working with healthcare billing and/or biomedical data
is desirable
• Experience with machine learning techniques and tools is
desirable
• Analytic Problem-Solving: Approaching high-level challenges with
a clear eye on what is important; employing the right approach/methods to
make the maximum use of time and human resources.
• Effective Communication: Detailing your techniques and
discoveries to technical and non-technical audiences in a language they can
understand.
• Intellectual Curiosity: Exploring new territories and finding
creative and unusual ways to solve problems.
• Industry Knowledge: Understanding the way healthcare functions
and how data are collected, analyzed and utilized.
• Appropriate certifications in healthcare, process improvement, or
data science are preferred.
