Institute Information: The Department of Quantitative Health Sciences (QHS),
founded in 2009, at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMass
Medical School) now has over 30 faculty members. QHS faculty are Principal
Investigators on extramural grants totaling over $43 million. UMass Medical
School holds a Clinical and Translation Science Award, and receives over $
280 million in annual extramural funding. QHS is a key player of clinical
and translational research, and conducts cutting edge work on projects
related to Massachusetts’ role as a leader in national health care reform.
The main campus of the UMass Medical School is located at the city of
Worcester that is adjacent to the greater Boston area. The city was recently
recognized as one of the “10 most livable cities in the nation” by Forbes
.com. The campus is 35 miles from Boston and is within a region known for
its concentration of high-technology, healthcare, biotechnology, and
biomedical engineering research and industry.
Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow (Research Associate)
Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Quantitative Health Sciences
(QHS) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School is recruiting a
postdoctoral fellow or research associate to conduct innovative research on
one of the two areas (or both): (1) longitudinal data analysis and (2)
analytics of healthcare big data using data mining techniques. Candidates
are expected to work on an interdisciplinary field of biostatistics, machine
learning, health policy, and health services research, but with an emphasis
on using innovative random-effects models and data mining techniques to
analyze healthcare big data. QHS has access to several national and state-
level medical big data sets that can provide unique opportunities to the
candidates. Successful candidates will also be given opportunities, if
needed, to collaborate with the clinicians to conduct research on clinical
trials and translational science.
Position Qualifications: The candidate should have a doctoral degree in
statistics, biostatistics, economics, computer science, biomedical
informatics, or other related fields. Preference will be given to the
candidates who have experiences in (1) complex random-effects models and/or
(2) statistical learning and data mining. However, candidates that work in
other areas are also encouraged to apply. Strong computational skills in SAS
or Python evidenced by previous research experiences and publications are a
plus. Candidates with postdoctoral academic experiences are particularly
encouraged to apply the position.
Salary Range: Approximately $47,500 to $56,000 (NIH standard postdoc salary)
