(1) Commerce Department reports the nation's chain stores sales, which is
expected to have fallen 0.1% after falling 1.2% in March. Sales excluding
volatile autos are expected to have held steady after falling 1% in March.
(2) Government reports on April import and export prices
(3) March business inventories
(4) weekly crude inventories.
Thursday:
(1) The government's April Producer Price index (PPI) is expected to have
risen 0.1% after falling 1.2% in the previous month. The PPI is a measure
of wholesale inflation. The so-called core PPI, which strips out volatile
food and energy prices, is expected to have risen 0.1% following a flat
reading in March.
(2) Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) reports quarterly results. Estimates is 77 cents
per share versus 76 cents a year earlier.
(3) The weekly jobless claims report from the Labor Department.
Friday:
(1) April CPI may remain the same after falling 0.1% in March. The core CPI
is expected to have risen 0.1% after rising 0.2%
(2) The NY Empire State Manufacturing index for May is expected to have
declined to a reading of -15 from -14.65 in April. Any reading that is
negative shows continued weakness in the sector.
(3) April capacity utilization and industrial production
