Fidelity |

substantially similar equity purchase in the 60 days period(30 days before
and after).
The loophole is "substantially similar". If you sell equity at a loss but
buy calls, then you might be exempted from wash sale but achieve the same
trading effect. YMMV.

c**u 发帖数: 2230 | 8 yeah? I don't think so, double check yourself.
Every year, I use trader's way to file my tax. I also tried wash sale's way.
The condition is that you don't have positions before year end, the result
is the same.
The wash sale way is to defer your loss to when you sell out all the
positions including the positions you buy back after sell. That is the key.
lucky.

c****x 发帖数: 127 | 9 Wrong again. The condition is you don't have position before year end AND
>no purchase for 31 days after your last sale. So if you sold you all
your positions on Dec 31st, but then you buy back on Jan 1st, you are still
in violation of the wash sale rule.
Another alternative is to elect mark-to-market for active traders. Wash sale
doesn;t apply at all for mark-to-market traders.
way.
