York & Announces New Rating by A.M. Best Co.
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Philadelphia Financial (www.philafin.com),
the category leader in private placement insurance, today announced that it
has acquired Phoenix Life and Reassurance Company of New York, a New York
domiciled life insurance entity from The Phoenix Companies, Inc., and
renamed the firm Philadelphia Financial Life Assurance Company of New York.
Concurrent with the transaction, A.M. Best Company has issued a rating of A-
(Excellent) for the life insurance subsidiaries of Philadelphia Financial.

In addition to the new rating, Philadelphia Financial completed a
transaction on June 23 to become independent of The Phoenix Companies, Inc.
The new majority owner is Tiptree Financial Partners, a broadly diversified
financial services holding company, primarily owned by a group of major
financial institutions.
As part of its announcement of the rating upgrade to A- (Excellent), A.M.
Best Company noted Philadelphia Financial’s strong niche market position
within the individual ultra-high net worth and institutional private
placement marketplace, its seasoned management team and the benefits
associated with its new ownership structure.
