you can open it. but you can not easily change font size to fit the whole
thing on screen.
Unless the pdf is made for kindle specifically. there are some of them.
For other pdf, I would convert to MOBI first. then you easily zoom in/out in
kindle.

I think you need to register with your amazon acct in order to do that.
And the original must be DRM free. which can not be guaranteed some times :)
With the free conversion software, I do not see the point of using amazon
service.
