unprecedented downgrade of the U.S. government's credit rating by Standard &
Poor's slammed equities and other assets perceived as risky. Safe-haven
buying was credited with pushing down the yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury
note . The yield declined by around 2 basis points to 2.54%, according to
FactSet Research data, after initially rising in Asian trading hours. Yields
move in the opposite direction of bond prices. "The short-term direct
effect on U.S. Treasurys of the downgrade is likely to be moderate, and
