Treasurys Do the Twist Again at Auction

Today’s 30-year Treasury auction ended up being the strongest of the
week, amid ongoing speculation about the Fed’s Operation Twist.
The bonds were sold at an historic low yield of 3.31%, compared with the
3.335% the market expected.
The bid-to-cover ratio was at 2.85%; the 4-sale average was 2.49%. The
indirect bid, a proxy for foreign buyers, was 39.4%, the highest since April
and compared to the 30.4% average. The direct bid was 17.3%; the average
was 14.9%.
The 30-year bond turned higher, recently trading up 7/32, pushing the
yield down to 3.31%. The 10-year is steady at 2%.
