WASHINGTON (Nikkei)--The Group of 20 nations is planning to put together a
$600 billion lending facility at the International Monetary Fund to bolster
the world's ability to deal with the European debt crisis, The Nikkei
reported early Thursday.
Combined with the European Financial Stability Facility's nearly $600
billion, the new IMF fund will boost the amount of funds set aside for the
euro zone to over $1 trillion.
The G-20 is considering adding to the IMF's firepower by setting up a
lending facility of between $550 billion and more than $600 billion. Key G-
20 members such as Japan, the U.S. and China will contribute to the fund. |
