"U.S. Senator Bob Corker, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, said a
new strategic plan released by the Federal Housing Finance Agency for the
future of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac "starts to move us in the right
direction" toward reform of the two mortgage finance agencies, adding
"now it's up to Congress to build off the momentum." In the plan presented
to Congress today, FHFA Acting Director Edward DeMarco proposed a risk-
sharing arrangement with the private sector and a method to restore private
financing in housing, both elements contained in legislation introduced by
Corker last fall to responsibly unwind Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and
gradually end the federal government's dominant role in housing." |
