(comments from experts most welcome):
total shares 3.71B
Cash on hand(latest ER): 15B
Debt: 7B

Net Cash 8B (roughly $2.16/share in cash equity)
However, they lose 1.53B last year (1B last quarter alone). with the fiasco of new phone release
(they make no money after rebates), widely expected the margin (-3%) will
continue to drop, let's say they lost 2B this coming quarter, it would drop
the net equity portion to about $1.61/share. If thing don't improve quickly
, they will burn out their cash in less than 1 yr.
to raise cash, they will have to sell something, patents, part of the
operation etc, or cut cost by lay off. |

more money they lost because of the negative profit margin. and they can't
lay off people that easy because of the socialism - why europe is such dip
shit - socialism prevent you from laying off people that easy, with such
high legacy cost, you can't survive when market turns against you, and you
can't get going fast when market condition is right. |

Smart phone next quarter : 10m = 5m (symbian )+ 5m (wp)
Smart phone another quarter : 15m = 3m (symbian ) + 12m (wp)
Feature phone last quarter : 80m
Feature phone this quarter : 70m
Feature phone next quarter : 60m
Feature phone another quarter : 50m
It looks like next two quarters will be tough.
But without NOK's success, MSFT will die. So there is no worry about cash at

Nok's CDS skyrockets because people start worrying if they can pay their
debt. MSFT is not gonna give them cash for free - it already contributed the
WP system, if buying, MSFT much better off buying RIMM, much smaller
company(easy to handle financially), better balance sheet, RIMM's security
patent could actual improve WP to give a edge for MSFT vs AAPL. besides,
most of business already on MSFT platform.
