Overnight US equity futures usually start to synchronize
with Nikkei and, to a lesser degree, HSI (Hang Seng) etc,
when Asian spot markets open at around 8PM ET.
After the European markets open at around 2AM ET,
DAX, CAC and STOXX etc start to influence US futures.
Once US pre-market opens at 4AM ET, US futures start
to diverge from other global indices, and synchronize
with US spot market.
What you are seeing on ES/NQ/YM right now (11PM ET)
is mainly the artifact of Nikkei:

估计交易算法，sentiment analysis etc, 机构直接copycat了股票那一套。

positively correlated to the speculative sentiment in equity markets. :)
