We’ve known for a long time that Huawei is working on its own operating
systems that could be used on devices if it ever had to replace Android and
Windows. That scenario unfolded a few weeks ago when the Trump
administration placed China’s largest smartphone vendor on a blacklist that
prevents it from importing any technology made in the States, whether it’s
software or hardware.
Soon after that, we learned that Huawei would use Android for its mobile OS,
only a version that’s stripped of everything Android fans love — that
means there’s no Google Play and no other Google apps in Huawei’s Android.
Then Huawei registered a “HongMeng” trademark in several countries, which
is believed to be the name of its OS, and it looks like HongMeng is coming
soon.
A report from Huawei Central says that Huawei is inviting people to test its
operating system on a new device that might be a Huawei Mate 30 phone. That
’s according to a person familiar with the matter who also added that
Huawei plans to release Hongmeng alongside the Mate 30 phones.
Huawei is expected to launch the Mate 30 series, including the high-end Pro
model that has appeared in several leaks so far, in October and November.
The actual launch date is yet to leak, but Huawei is only allowed to do
business with American companies until mid-August when the three-month
reprieve expires. That is, of course, unless Trump revokes the ban. He said
a few days ago that Huawei would be allowed to do business with some tech
companies, but no formal change has been made in that regard.
The Mate 30, meanwhile, is Huawei’s second flagship of the year, not
counting the Mate X foldable, which will be a niche product for the time
being. Not launching the Mate 30 because there’s no operating system
available would be a disaster for Huawei. That’s where Hongmeng comes in
handy.
But, as I said before, Huawei’s Android will be something hardcore Android
users from international markets will not want. A Hongmeng-based Mate 30 Pro
would work in China, however, where Google doesn’t have an official
presence. | W***n 发帖数: 11530 | 2 HA HA HA HA HA !!!

With Huawei's Hongmeng OS in its Mate 30 series, all apps that work in
Android will work in HM. Google Play can be replaced by Aptoide, which has
the largest Android app store. HM is tested 60% faster than Android. No
wonder Huawei is the leader not only in telecom equipment but also in cell
phones.

Now for national security reason, China should ban Android and require all
phones in China to use Hong Meng OS.

As they say, short term pain, long term gain.
Though the US will definitely win in the short term as they control most of
the widely used OSes in the world, due to their early starts making them the
defacto standards but in the long run due to all the bans by the US the
eventual winner is anyone's guess as the 2 countries are in some sort of
symbiotic relationship where they gain & benefit from each other.
What we must remember is that US companies had become very profitable due to
China's manufacturing prowess... yes the US can always transfer
manufacturing to other places BUT it will definitely NOT BACK to the US, so
the US will definitely see no shift in the balance of payment with the rest
of the world.
As for China, with the US boycott, they will face with NO choice but to
accelerate the progress for local content in all their products until one
day it will be next to impossible for the US to regain the markets lost.

American software is done. Now China has its own operating system. It mean
it has its own chips and its own device. Operating system is the most
powerful system because it control hardware device, chips, cpu, etc. Now
China will dominate world technology like Apple and Microsoft.

Here is how I see it. It is bad for Huawei/China in the short term but good
for them in the long run. China is one of the few countries can support its
own OS due to its market and population. Sure there are plenty of countries
have the technical capability to develop one but they usually don't have the
market to sustain and support it on its own financially. By banning Huawei
from accessing full Android OS, we force Chinese to develop their own. HM
will suck and has no app for it at the very beginning. It will get better
eventually. We all know that app developers will develop one for HM as long
as there is a market for it. US will lose the market and potentially
leverage over Huawei or even other Chinese phone makers.

This was going to eventually happen anyway. Trump just sped up their
timetable. U.S. businesses depend on China more than China depends on the U.
S. They more than triple the U.S. population. U.S. companies will always try
to tap that market.

It is only a matter of time that Google will regret why it cannot sell any
of its product to an existing existing big customer who will now be forced
and justified to make their own . Google's existing presence in China on
other apps could now be endangered since they have also blacklisted US firms
in retallations .

The US Govt is fighting Huawei because they have refused to install
backdoors on their Huawei devices and 5G tech to allow NSA spying like they
do with Iphones. THAT is the real beef. | J****h 发帖数: 623 | 3 North Korea has its own cellular phone with firewall. China is following. | s**********o 发帖数: 14359 | | t*****9 发帖数: 10416 | 5 North Korea's cellular phone probably made by 华强北 ~~~lol
