VMware shares fell in after-hours trading after the technology company
posted earnings below the Wall Street estimate.
Late Thursday, VMware (ticker: VMW) reported adjusted earnings per share of
$2.05 for its fiscal fourth quarter versus the Wall Street consensus
estimate of $2.17, according to FactSet. The company posted revenue of $3.07
billion for the same quarter, up 11% year over year, which was above the $2
.95 billion average analyst estimate.
“Our results demonstrate the power of our broad-based portfolio and a
strategy that continues to resonate with our customers,” VMware CEO Pat
Gelsinger said in a news release.
VMware also gave a disappointing earnings outlook for fiscal 2021. It
expects adjusted earnings per share of $6.55 for the fiscal year, compared
with the $7.03 consensus estimate.
VMware stock was down 4.4% to $129.64 in after-hours trading.
Others on Wall Street are generally mixed on VMware stock. About 63% have
ratings of Buy or the equivalent on the stock, while 31% have Hold ratings,
according to FactSet. Their average price target for the stock is $181. | z****w
