SoftBank's response effectively "cleared the cloud" over any potential share
dump by the company, UOB Kay Hian analyst Chun Sung Oong told The Wall
Street Journal. He added that the registration was likely in preparation for
future new share issuance under Alibaba's employee equity incentive plan.
Citi updated its view, saying in a research note that the move may be
intended to support trading in the U.S. at a time when Alibaba investors
have increasingly preferred the stock's Hong Kong listing. Their conversion
of ADSs into shares in the Asian financial hub has left the amount of U.S.-
traded ADSs running low, it noted. |
