MOUNT WASHINGTON, N.H. —
The hiker rescued in the White Mountains over the weekend has died.
The rescue happened on Gulfside Trail near Mount Clay and Mount Washington
late Saturday night.
The hiker, identified as a Xi Chen, 53, of Andover, Massachusetts, texted
his wife saying he was cold and wet.
Officials said Chen was attempting a Presidential Traverse hike when he
encountered severe weather.
A team of rescuers found him unresponsive and in a hypothermic state.
He later died at a hospital after several hours of lifesaving efforts,
officials said.
