since he was ousted as head coach at the University of Utah following
allegations made by former swimmer Whitney Lopus that he sexual assaulted
her, Greg Winslow has been added to USA Swimming's Banned for List list.
Lopus accused Winslow of engaging in sexual abuse of her when he coached at
Sun Devil Aquatics while she was a teenage swimmer. She also alleged that
the abuse stopped before she followed Winslow up to Utah to swim for him
before transferring to Arizona and subsequently leaving the sport due to a
drug addiction.
News broke of the allegations on the first night of the Pacific 12
Championships last year, which led to Winslow being suspended by Utah before
later being terminated by the athletics department.
While Arizona State police could not make any of the allegations stick, and
criminal charges could not be pursued due to some issues with a partially
botched investigation as well as a question whether the type of contact
actually was criminal within the state of Arizona, USA Swimming continued
its investigation and concluded two days ago to ban Winslow for life from
membership in its organization.
Officially, he was found in violation of USA Swimming Codes of Conduct 304.3
.5 and 304.3.15.
304.3.5 Any sexual contact or advance or other inappropriate sexually
oriented behavior or action directed towards an athlete by a coach, official
, trainer, or other person who, in the context of swimming, is in a position
of authority over that athlete.
304.3.15 Any other act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is
detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport
of swimming.
The timing of the public notice on the ban is a bit interesting just two
days after the listed ban date. This suggests that Winslow waived his right
to a 30-day appeal window and accepted the ban. | d**y 发帖数: 18174 | 2 某家长对该教练的“控诉”
Matt Fiascone, a parent of one of Winslow's swimmers in Utah, said Winslow
commonly came to practice drunk; had outbursts of anger, including once
punching an assistant coach; used racial slurs; and once forced a team
member to swim underwater with his hands tied to a PVC pipe that was
strapped to his back until he blacked out.
