or non-resident for the year? (Are you H1b for more or less than half year?
Is your F1 more than 5 years?)
The treaty always applies for the time you're on F1. So you can deduct 5000
from your income from the part of the year you were on F1. Everybody is
separate, so if you spouse is F1 too, then they can deduct 5000 for their
income while on F1.
Dual status does not have standard deduction. Resident has standard
