1) Put 1 on both W-4 if your income is similar to your wife's
2) Put 2 on yours if your income is higher than your wife's. 0 on your wife'

3) Put 0 on yours if your income is lower than your wife's. 2 on yours.
The idea is, the smaller number on Box 5, the higher tax rate it will be.
