Two research assistant I/II positions
Two research assistant I/II positions are immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Chengkai Dai at THE JACKSON LABORATORY, which is the world's mecca for mouse genetics and an National Cancer Institute -designed Cancer Center located in scenic Bar Harbor, Maine. The Jackson laboratory's contributions to biomedical research have been widely recognized and our faculty have received numerous international honors and prestigious awards including the Nobel Prize, the Shaw Prize (Nobel of the East), the Lasker Award (America¹s Nobel). The Jackson Laboratory currently has two investigators of Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and two members of National Academy of Sciences (NAS).
Dr Dai¹s laboratory conducts research on human cancer and ageing with a special interest in understanding the emerging roles of the heat-shock / stressresponse in these two important pathophysiological processes (Cell. 2007 Sep 21;130(6):1005-18 and http://research.jax.org/faculty/chengkai_dai.html). We employ a broad range of integrated modern techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, high-throughput functional genomics, and cutting-edge mouse genetics (transgenic and knockout mouse models). Dr. Dai's novel research program is currently well funded by the prestigious Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar Award in Aging and National Institute of Health Director¹s New Innovator Award. The new innovator award is managed by NIH Office of the Director and designed specifically to support unusually creative new investigators with highly innovative research ideas at an early stage of their career ( http://commonfund.nih.gov/newinnovator/).
Highly motivated individuals with a Bachelor or Master's degree in biology and an interest in pursuing a PhD degree in biomedical research are encouraged to apply. Previous research experience and strong laboratory skills would be a big plus. The Jackson Laboratory has joint PhD programs with Tufts University (ranked #28 national universities, Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences ) and University of Maine Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS). Candidates will conduct thesis research at The Jackson Laboratory and obtain PhD diplomas issued by either Tufts University or University of Maine. Interested candidates can first join my laboratory via H-1B/J1 visa and switch to F-1 visa once admitted to the graduate
