Originally from Taiwan, I have lived in US for 2 decades, mostly in Bosotn.
I don't have Chinese or Taiwanese acquaintance--all Americans. In prisons of
Massachusetts, an American prisoner once told me, there is a custom that if
a prisoner is going to be released, he should keep quiet. Otherwise, those
who will be left behind will beat him up, on the eve of his departure.
