points for Djokovic. At Indian Wells last year, Federer reached the third
round (l. to Baghdatis) and earned 45 ranking points. Djokovic exited in the
Last 16 (l. to Ljubicic) and won 90 points.
Djokovic must therefore win 211 more points than Federer if he is to regain
World No. 2 after the Californian tournament. Djokovic will become World No.
2 on March 21 if:
- He wins the Indian Wells tournament;
- He reaches the final and Federer loses before the title-match; or,
- He advances to the semi-finals and Federer loses before the quarter-finals. |

I think the current ATP rankings were not updated after Dubai (at least for
Roger). He did not play in Dubai last year, right? then he should have 300
points added to his current rating by reaching the final, while Djokovic
was the defending champion this year, so his rating stays the same.
Am I missing something? |

book.
For now, just take what I posted as a fact. The idea is Federer
is penalized for not showing up in at least 3 ATP500 events.

earn countable ranking points. Not all the points that you earn in each of
those tournaments would be counted.
