Honestly, if everything he said were from his Major coach, something is not
right. I really doubt his credentials based on what he described, sounds
like an old school technique, focused on neutral/close stance forehand,
volley and serve.
1. His boy is right-handed and w/modern techniques, his shoes wear-out
doesn't make any sense. If his boy plays open-stance inside out forehand
dominately, left shoes should wear out faster than right's. Black you can
confirm w/atp players or coaches you know. My coach brought up 1 ATP <100,
a couple of ATP <1000 and lots of 5.5 college players, I can confirm with
him again to be sure.
2. There are generally 2 slices, defensive and offensive. Tennis is a
PERCENTAGE game, players @ ATP level can for sure hit very low, strong back
spin, fast slice, but that's RISK. Neutralizing slice can be a little
higher and contains lots of back & side spins and is also frequently used.
3. There are 3 types of lobs, slice lob, flat lob and topspin lob.
Slice lob is mostly used during warm-up, it's high, slow, back spin and
hence it's good for opponent's overhead warmup. Watch every warm-up section
before pro-
matches and players are feeding their opponents consistent slice lob. It's
not frequently during Pro matches because it's weakest type of lob but it
doesn't mean they don't use it AT ALL especially when they are really bad
position.
If you have the time and position, always chose top spin lob> flat lob due
to projectary
and curvature; aggressiveness and higher chance.
4. You don't need to show your kids. You can do the following to check his
game level:
Attend 10& under or 12 boy Satellite tournament and see how he goes, if you
can get sectional top 30s = very good.
Invite USTA 3.5C MALE players to play w/ your sons, count 50 games. If he
can win 50% = very good.
5. Courts are cut into rectangles and triangles but that's in the players'
mind and feel, not in the eye. Don't look for where you hit is a very
important yet hardest thing to do during competative tennis play. If a boy/
girl can STARE at the ball during contact and last more than 1 sec on almost
every single stroke during MATCH PLAY, he/she has real TALENT.
