electrical engineer Oliver Heaviside. His best known contribution was to
introduce Laplace transform to linear circuit analysis so that one solves
the circuit problem algebraically in lieu of DE in time domain. Heaviside
was looked down by mathematicians for lacking the math rigor. On the other
hand, his work was considered to be too theoretical by his fellow engineers
in those days. Heavisde method is now taught at sophomore level in every
electrical engineering curriculum around the world. Most students probably
have learned the method without knowing the history.
