Yes, it is painful because you have to pay like $60/year up to 3 years per
payment. You can do it online at www.texasonline.com, mail it, or go to
local county office.
You'll get ticket if your car registration expired for hundred dolloars I
guess.
Don't be confused with vehicle inspection, which is about $40, which you
need to do yearly at some mechanic shop. Your car may fail the inspection
due to various reasons.

you buy a used car and let them do mechanic check without state inspection.
They don't inspect my car, they just long for an excuse to fail the
inspection.
