In ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Show aired on October 16, 2013, a child proposed his
solution to the US debt problem by killing all Chinese. I am shocked that
ABC allow such speech to air, especially when such speech of violence and
hatred came from the mouth of a schoolchild. While millions of children
watched the show, what ABC taught our kids was that when you borrow some
money and cannot pay it back, you can kill the person who loans you the
money, and even so if he/she is of a different race. It is a message of
hatred and racism. The child himself may not understand what genocide means,
but Mr.Kimmel and ABC should be mature enough to know what content is
appropriate to put on the show. And it is not to be regarded as a joke when
thousands of Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans feel offended. ABC and
Mr. Kimmel need to issue a formal apology to viewers of all ethnic origins,
especially children. I also think Mr. Kimmel should resign from the show
and relearn how to tell a good joke. |
