In lieu of recent Jimmy Kimmel show scandal of promoting racial killing
among small children, we urge your company to reconsider your sponsorship
with the Jimmy Kimmel Show and ABC.
The racial killing statement, although presented by a child, is clearly
scripted by the show’s writers. The show was recorded in the afternoon,
hours before it was aired. There is no excuse for ABC trying to shift the
blame to a child.
No matter which side you are on the issue, the fact is that this incident
has created an outrage among Asian communities. By simply being associated
with the show and ABC, it could greatly damage your brand among your
potential customers. As a matter of fact, in the coming weeks, there will be
widespread coordinated boycott of Jimmy Kimmel show and those sponsors
continue to sponsor the show and ABC.
We are not asking you to support us or even agree with us. We respect your
own judgment. However, we are asking you to reconsider where you can best
spend your advertising dollars to bring you most value for your business.

As a Chinese American, I am deeply saddened by a recent incident on the
Jimmy Kimmel Live show of ABC that your company is sponsoring.
In the Oct/16th episode of the Kimmel show, Mr. Kimmel chuckled “killing
all Chinese in China” as an interesting idea, and asked a few kids in his
show “should we allow the Chinese to live?”. As a Chinese American, I feel
that his manner of joking about my cultural heritage is very disrespectful
and unacceptable. ABC should not have let the episode aired. In my opinion,
these jokes are very distasteful and promote racial hatred even if it could
be unintentional.
Mr. Kimmel and ABC offered apologies a few days ago after the Asian
Americans protested. Unfortunately, I believe what they did is far from
sufficient. I believe that ABC and Mr. Kimmel must offer a public apology
toward the Asian American community, otherwise Mr. Kimmel is not fit for
hosting shows on an influential TV network.
Personally I am not going to watch ABC or buy any Disney product until they
properly address my concern, and I promise that I will ask my friends to
join me to do the same.
When I find out that your company is sponsoring his show, I believe that it
is my responsibility to remind you that companies, while have to be profit
driven, must also bear in mind the responsibility of promoting a harmonious
society and consider your public image for your long term interest.
Promoting racial hatred and discrimination is against the interest of your
own company and the public's interest, especially the interest of the Asian
Americas in this case, many of whom have been your loyal customers including
myself for many years.
It is therefore become unbearable for me to continue using your products
with the knowledge that you are sponsoring ABC and Mr. Kimmel who have been
condescending and discriminating against my cultural heritage.
I urge you to withdraw your sponsorship toward Mr. Kimmel and ABC’s
programs!
