Decided to make a few posts about things LP and I have been talking about
over the past few weeks.
Tipping is of course a personal preference. Tip what makes you happy. Tip
what you think is right. Tip dealers who are more technically sound (and
deals more hands per hour). Tip dealers who look cute. Don't tip at all.
Whatever, there isn't a hard and fast rule for what's right or wrong for
tipping.
For the recreational player, tipping is not much different than rake or cost
of food. It eats into money on the table. The effect tipping has on the
longevity of a session is hard to see for a recreational playe so they tend
to tip more.
For the serious/professional player, tipping eats into win rate. Tipping
too much can be considered a leak.
For limit format games, the standard is $1/pot. Lower limit players tend to
tip more, because higher limit has more serious/professional players.
Large pots usually generate $2/pot, and huge pots go from $5 to $10. Some
pros, regardless of how large a size of pot, only tip $1. Their rationale
is the bigger the pot, the more they risked. It's not as if they get a
rebate from the dealer when they lose a large pot. Right or wrong, that's
their personal choice.
I typically tip more than the average regular. I look at myself as a serious
recreational player. I play for entertainment, and most dealers don't make
a lot so I'm happy to make their day a little better. It's part of the
cost of the entertainment.
My problem is I tend to tip Chinese dealers even more, because well, they
are Chinese!
I'd almost always add $2-3 per pot for Chinese dealers. Even ones I don't
like so much, I would at least apply the extra 'Chinese Bonus" the first pot
I win, or if I don't win any pots during the down, give them a few bucks as
they leave. During one recent 3 handed session, I won a ton of pots while
a Chinese dealer was dealing. By LP's estimate, I probably tipped him $60
or so more than I would tip a regular dealer.
Since tipping is a personal choice, I'm not asking if this is right or wrong
. I'm just wondering if other people tend to tip Chinese dealers more. Is
this normal? | f*****g 发帖数: 15860 | 2 vely good!

all it is all entertainment.
I do feel the Chinese bonus is a leak. Do the Chinese dealers give you a
bonus in return?

more inclined to reward/help. Probably a super leak of mine : )

Very interesting topic. For pure recreational player, whose goal of poker
is just to pay some money to have fun, they should tip the amount to make
themself happy and dealer happy as well. Like most tourists in Vegas who
only play poker quite occaionally , there is nothing wrong with that.
For any serious player, even not professional player, overtip is
really the edge killer. Our edge is not that big and we do not get any tip
when we are losing. The money always goes back and forth. I talked to
some chinese dealers in Bellagio, they got much more tips from 1-2NL or 2-
5NL than they got from high limit game or the game in Balwin room. Fornately
, in higher limit game (most 5-10NL or even deep stack 2-5NL now days), most
ppl only tip 1-3$ for most pot. I I barely see tip over 5$ nowdays from
regs, even pot is something like 10k. So most dealers are happy with it and
you can live with that yourself.
Think about if both you and dealer are making a living with that ,
and if you overtip, you will end with going broke(most likley will for
middle-low stake full time grinders) and sleep on the street, you simply do
not have a choice and most dealers would understand that. I personally do
not know anybody can survive as a full time poker player if he keeps
overtiping in low-middle stake game. That fact is just that painfully simple
. Actually, in high limit game, you almost do not have any tipping pressure
most of time since almost everybody tips the same.
I did know some dealers got fired for complaining tips and showing
bad altitude. The job makret is so bad now and many poker dealers are
looking for jobs.
For Chinese dealer, I do tip a little bit more, just like you do. But
mainly for the dealers that I am familiar with, I usually add 2-3$ extra
tip for any pot I won when they deal me. I do not think there there is
anything wrong with that.
