Addiontally, smartstruct tech may go beyond control field.
For example, sensor technology can be used for non-destructive
evaluation and testing purposes, which should be promising.
Another possibility is to use shape memory alloy for
rehabilitation of damaged structures.
Both of the foregoing topics have nothing to do with controltheory.

you're welcome, hehe
yes, NDE use lots of sensor technology, however IMHO, it's not a typical
example of Smart Structures because normally Actuactor should also be
present in order for the structure to be "SMART" (response to the outside
stimuli).
NDE has lots of industry applications and the major needs lots of background
on measurement, applied physics etc. it's very broad in spectrum of
application. a Ph.D. student can't be expected to master more than one or
two basic techniques and dip dee

the traditional techniques have their downside, they typically add weight and
they work only for certain frequencies of viverations.
then I may ask the following questions:
how can the smart structures use the actuators to adapt vious frequencies of
viberations
and how can the speed of the smart materials responsed to the viberation catch
up with the high speed of the viberation if it happens.

eration

如果sma is not a good choice for fast response speed and higher response acc
uracy ,then what is the substitute?or what is more promising in recent years
.
Now I just want to find new and effective methods to protect the bridge or t
all buildings from wind load and earthquake.

| P******n 发帖数: 1220 | 8 Geneally speaking, I would say that any civil structures, if they need online
monitoring for improving their performance, may be categoried as 'smart'.
Taking control technology as an example, it is mature in EE and ME, but many
people doubt its usefulnessfor bulky civil systems.
Passive control could be more conservative remediesand are easily
appreicaited by civil engineers.
The biggest question is: Is control tech really needed before we are actually
fully aware of the 'true' nature of struct

HOHO。
