I became interested in climbing at the end of 2001 and started running at
the same time to build endurance for climbing. At that time I could barely
run 1 mile.
In 2003, I ran two marathons, with time of 4:11 and 3:45. That year, I
logged 1200 miles in running.
Starting from 2003, I joined a climbing club in Seattle and focused on
climbing. My annual running mileage hovered around 600 miles for the next
several years.
In 2005, I tried to run another marathon. Building up the mileage too fast,
I ended up injuring myself and had a terrible race with 3:57 finish time,
despite my better overall conditioning than 2003.
In 2007, I started bike training to do one-day STP (204-mile Seattle to
Portland bike ride). But I had an accident and fell from my bike. No major
injury but I was hesitant to ride again.
This year I decided that climbing was just too dangerous for me. I want to
live a little longer. Instead I would start studying music. In the meantime,
I want to finish my BQ dream. I trained for 3 months and luckily I ran a
marathon a few days ago in 3:20, just barely making the BQ time for my age
group.
Inspired by the people doing triathlon, I also want to fulfill another dream
I had long ago, completing an triathlon. So here I am, hoping to learn from
you all and share our stories. |
