them with immigration issues pleaded guilty today to a felony.
Jorge Rodrigo Lopez Chinchilla, commonly known as Jorge Lopez, was sentenced
to eight years of probation and ordered to pay restitution totaling $19,350
to 14 victims or face time in prison, a statement from Marion County
Prosecutor Terry Curry said.
“Jorge Lopez took advantage of members of the Latino community using his
position of trust in the church and capitalizing on the families’ legal
circumstances, providing them with nothing more than a false sense of hope
and fraudulent documents,” Curry said.
According to the plea agreement entered today, Lopez pleaded guilty to
corrupt business influence, a Class C felony. He originally was charged with
corrupt business influence, four counts of forgery and five counts of theft
. Convictions on all of those charges could have put him in prison for up to
40 years.
Lopez was charged in August 2013 after a nearly yearlong investigation by
the prosecutor’s office. The investigation revealed several instances where
Lopez took cash from friends and family members that was intended to pay
the bonds of individuals being held by U.S. Immigrations and Customs
Enforcement, the prosecutor’s office said. In one instance, a victim paid
Lopez to intervene in the deportation of her husband. The victim’s husband
was deported three days later, and Lopez refused to refund the money,
stating that it had been paid to the immigration office.
Lopez also accepted cash from an undercover officer to remove an immigration
hold on someone detained in the Marion County Jail, indicating that the
individual would be released on bond the next day, the statement from the
prosecutor’s office said. However, that individual already had been
transported eight days earlier to another location and never received a bond.
Lopez identified himself as pastor of Iglesia De Cristo Nuevo and used the
church as a meeting location for collecting money from the victims, the
prosecutor’s office said. | n********n

必要因为一个牧师犯错就否定整个基督教。哪个人的群体不犯错呢。我们也不会因为一
个中国人犯错，就否定所有中国人吧。
看到基督徒犯错也没必要大惊小怪。圣经曾反复强调信徒要避免继续作恶，不要把耶稣给
信徒的自由作为作恶的借口。等等。
