Surprised to hear that Mormons support religious freedom? Take a closer look
at freedom of religion in the Book of Mormon and LDS church leaders on the
U.S. Constitution.
Mormons are proud of their rich history dating back to the formation of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1830. One of the tenets that
Mormons have always held dear is the right to religious freedom.
Freedom of Religion in the Articles of Faith
Originally penned by Joseph Smith in 1842 describing Mormon beliefs to a non
-Mormon, the Articles of Faith are 13 points of essential Mormon doctrine
that have since become canonized by the LDS church.
The 11th Article of Faith reads: "We claim the privilege of worshiping
Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all
men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may." |

In part, the 11th Article of Faith was probably a reaction to the political
climate of the times. By 1842, Mormons had felt the effects of religious
persecution firsthand, having been evicted from the state of Missouri by an
"extermination order" issued by the governor.
The 11th Article of Faith was a way for Joseph Smith not only to reassert
his belief that Mormon worship deserved freedom of religion, but also to
quell fears that the cohesive religious group known as "Mormons" were out to
deny other people their rights to religious freedom.
Religious Freedom in the Book of Mormon
Support for religious tolerance can be found not only in the Articles of
Faith, but in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a Latter-day Saint
scripture following the account of ancient inhabitants of the American
continent.
According to Alma 30: 7-11, their government in about 74 B.C. had "no law
against a man's belief; for it was strictly contrary to the commands of God"
for such a law to exist. If a man "believed in God it was his privilege to
serve him; but if he did not believe in him there was no law to punish him."
All citizens were punished for their crimes (murder, adultery, theft, etc.)
and not for their religious beliefs.
7法律不反對人的信仰；因為法律若造成人的地位不平等，就完全違背神的誡命。
8 因為經上這樣說：今日就選擇所要事奉的。
9 如果一個人想要事奉神，那是他的特權；或者說，如果他信神，事奉神就是他的特

罰；如果他姦淫，也要受處罰；是的，他們犯這些罪行，都要受處罰。

，人只為自己所犯的罪行受處罰；所有的人地位平等。

In the 1913 book Articles of Faith, church leader James E. Talmage explained
that "the Latter-day Saints accept as inspired the constitutional provision
by which religious liberty within our own nation [America] is professedly
guarded, that no law shall ever be made 'respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof'."
Joseph Smith was an ardent believer in the U.S. Constitution and the
democratic process, and up to the present day it is not uncommon to hear
church leaders speaking of the Constitution as an inspired document.
Mormons today respect the right to freedom of religion and recognize that
religious freedom in America partially paved the way for Joseph Smith's
first vision in 1820.
Mormons sincerely believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints is the only fully true church in existence, but that does not mean
that they don't respect and defend other people's right to worship as they
see fit. |

们赞同的教训教条。里面的弟兄姐妹都是主内的弟兄姐妹。
同时我们也不否认我们在某些教义教理上有不同之处，但我们都同向一位天父祷告，都
以耶稣基督的名字祈求，都承认耶稣是上帝派来的人类唯一救主，都相信他的牺牲的赎
价为人的罪附上了救恩的代价，都愿意悔改我们各自的罪，并且都相信主耶稣的第二次来临，只有他是审判的主。
有了这些共同的信仰，就在灵里面通过基督而联合了。至于不同的信仰之处，我们希望不断通过对话和交流互相理解各自的立场，包容各自的观点。以爱的原则，宽恕和怜悯的原则对待彼此。每个人都有神赐的选择权，在主耶稣即将回来的现在，在国家法律允许之下，选择自己的崇拜方式。 |

But I believe myelsa is a true Christian.
anyone on this board saying myelsa is NOT Christian will be my enemy.
I hate calvinists so much because they pushed her to the corner. She chose
Mormonism partly because she found no hope in so-called main stream christia
nity.
so I am fighting calvinism as long as I have breath.

al. the calvinists treat her so mean. but she is always humble and tender
in spirit. If there is a truth, the truth must be on her side.

不知你听了什么信息让你不能接受，不过没关系，自己亲自调查才知道好不好啊。听人
说李子好坏。不是要亲自尝一尝吗？
我已前跟你一样，只是听说。但是读读摩门经，跟传教士聊聊，一切才变得有道理合理
。我们教会所教导的，教义方面，跟我这么多年从圣经学到的是完全一致的。

我成为基督徒已经十几年了，我加入LDS是去年的事情。我可以负责人的告诉你，LDS的
教义跟圣经完全一致。读读摩门经就知道了。
我在加入这个教会之前，只研究圣经，得到的理解跟LDS的教义基本是一致的，并且补
充和清除了原本含糊不清的一些内容。
至于教会里面的人，LDS跟其他教会的人都是一样的人，都有很多非常虔诚和热心以及
真心事奉上帝的人。但是由于教训和教导方式不太一样，尤其有关圣灵的教导方面，我
个人收获在一年里面是很大的。我学到如何静下心来，聆听圣灵的声音，从而更好地指
导我的日常生活，我也学到不断悔改的重要性，以及忍耐信仰到底的重要性。
我不能说别人都错，大家都有正确的东西。由于摩门经的问世，不是取代，而是补充了
更多一些好东西。我们教会诚信相信圣经是上帝的话语，我们今年全年都学习新约。去
年学的旧约。圣经是必学的标准经文。
如果你够了解我们教会的实践，比如12使徒，70人，还有圣殿的崇拜，再跟圣经对比一
下，就知道完全符合里面的启示，并且更加完美化了。这样说并不是说我们就十全十美
了，因为我们的确相信天父是活的，耶稣是复活了的耶稣，他是教会的头，
他还会给我们新的启示，会不断纠正如果我们理解有误和做错的地方。我们教会的恢复
，目的就是为他再次回来建立千禧年做准备的。

但我总是对这些教义的源头有疑虑，不管它们本身听起来是否合理。
其实我前几天写了一个质疑史密斯的帖子，刚post就担心你看到不高兴，一时心软就
自己删掉了，连底也没留。
主要是讲：如果一个人（在不太久之前，留下很多正面和负面的资料）声称自己受到了
圣灵的特殊启示，接受了神圣的使命，然后就聚集了一堆信徒过领袖瘾，还娶了30个
老婆，在自己没有预见的情况下被杀死（从而导致了教会的分裂）。你说他有多大可能
真是圣徒？
是不是和金田起义的领袖有点相似？当然他的野心没大到当皇帝（倒是要竞选总统来着
），
可要是也生在乱世，倒也难说。
我当然可能错。如果有冒犯请原谅。

弟兄真是良善的。建议你不要只听一面之词，听听我们教会的历史资料介绍，和解释。
这样做是公正的不是吗？只听一面之词，不给我们机会解释如何？公正的法官都要听听
双方的故事不是吗？
