th His national people forever. In short, Israel will not receive any of her
earthly promises. Therefore, they must get rid of the Millennium as a liter
al promise given to Israel. Of course, the Scriptures clearly teach that God
is not finished with national Israel (Rom. 11:1-2, 15, 25-27). In addition,
the amillennialist also teaches that the Church of today has supplanted or
taken over the place of national Israel and is now God's new Israel (Replace
ment Theology). In fact, this new Israel (the Church) has been given the kin
gdom and covenant promises of the Jews in a spiritual way. Therefore, the ea
rthly kingdom promises are changed into spiritual promises that are given to
the Church for today. In short, the earthly kingdom promises are transferre
d into spiritual promises for the Church today instead of a literal earthly
Millennium or literal reign of Christ over the earth.
There is a story told to the effect that a Jew, being in the company of a Ch
ristian, took up a New Testament and opened it to Luke 1:32, 33: "The Lord G
od shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign ov
er the house of Jacob for ever." Turning to his Christian friend the Jew ask
ed, "How do you understand that Scripture?" The Christian answered, "Oh, it'
s figurative language, descriptive of Christ's spiritual reign over the chur
ch." "Then you do not take it literally?" asked the Jew. "Certainly not," re
plied the Christian.
The Jew made this further remark, "Then why should you expect me to take lit
erally what precedes, where the Scriptures say that this Son of David shall
be born of a virgin? Do you believe that literally?" "Surely," answered the
Christian. The Jew continued, "Why do you accept verse 31 as literal, but ex
plain verses 32 and 33 as figurative?" "Because," answered the Christian, "v
erse 31 has become a fact-Jesus was so born. It is indisputable evidence." "
Ah," said the Jew, "I see! You believe the Scriptures when you see them fulf
illed. I believe them because they are the Word of God."
The amillennialist is simply not fair and honest with his interpretation of
Scripture. In the context of two verses like Isaiah 9:6-7 they can claim lit
eral interpretation for one verse regarding Christ's first coming to earth (
vs. 6) and then spiritualize the kingdom of Christ in the next verse to mean
something other than His earthly rule (vs. 7). Christ's first advent is tak
en to be fulfilled literally but the events associated with the Second Adven
t are not taken literally. The interpretive scissors of amillennialism cuts
the truth right out of the Bible of Christ's earthly kingdom rule and tries
to edit God's mind. Here is another case in point. The passage of Revelation
20 follows in sequential order from Revelation chapter 19:11-16 which envis
ions the return of Christ to earth. It is both and oddity and absurdity to t
hen interpret Revelation 20 as something other than a literal reign of Chris
t after Christ has already returned to earth. Most amillennialists make the
claim that Satan will not be bound during a future prophetic period during a
Millennium but that he is actually bound today (Rev. 20:2) in the sense tha
t he cannot defeat the church and keep people from getting saved by the Gosp
el. Of course, this is a fallacy of the worst sort (1 Pet. 5:8; 2 Cor. 4:3-4
; Luke 8:12). The claim is then made that Revelation 20:4 and the first resu
rrection of saints is actually a metaphor for spiritual regeneration or the
new birth. The 1,000 year kingdom concept of Revelation 20:4 is construed to
mean the time when God's saints die and go to heaven to reign with Christ. | R*o

as representatives of God ( remember seeketernal often talked about the auth
ority of his reformed church? )
Millennial kingdom is a debated issue that really requires ppl's attention.
How did Christians treat Jews in history and why? If Augustine and John
Calvin happened to be pre-millennialists, Jews' fate for the past centuries
may be much better.
