John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoev
er believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
This verse is cited most frequently. We can call John 3:16 the gospel in on
e sentence. This verse is the best declaration of "God is love". Yes, God
love us. God want to save us. What we need to do is just to believe in the
name of his only Son Jesus. Is that simple? Is that marvelous?
We also note the word "perish" here. There is no mention of "eternal punish
ment" in this verse. Will John316 still touch you if we read "whoever belie
ves in him should not be condemned to hell for eternal punishment but have e
ternal life in heaven"?Problem (2) world
John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but in order that the world might be saved through him.
A shocking news is that Calvinists teach us the word "world" in John 3:16 do
es not mean the ENTIRE world! God only love His elect living in everywhere
of the world. Calvinists explain that they use bible to interpret bible. B
ecause the word "world" in some places of gospels indeed means only some ele
cted people of the world.
If so, should the three "world" in John 3:17 have the same meaning as the "w
orld" in John 3:16? "For God did not sent his Son into the world to condemn
the world….". Can you see now? God sent Jesus into the world. The world
should be the ENTIRE world.
I know Calvinists will argue that there are many verses in the bible indicat
ing Jesus only chose the elect. And some people will surely go to hell acco
rding to the Revelation. How can the mighty God WANT to save the ENTIRE wor
ld but finally He is NOT able to? So Calvinists reason that God must have c
ondemned some of us to hell. Maybe you, maybe me, maybe your nice grandma!
Yes, she is predestined to Hell for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Whatever they reasoned, we can NOT change the meaning of any verse of the bi
ble. Does the "world" in John 3:16 mean only the elected people living in t
